Recognition for this Indian lesbian love story at New York Film Festival
Set in the 90's in Bengaluru, The Other Love Story, tells the tale
of two women falling in love at a time when same-sex relationships were
an 'unforgiving crime' in the country
Endless possibilities of new media have brought many into the
limelight with their experiments, but Roopa Rao's web-series on same-sex
love seem more promising. Roopa's courage to compete with popular media
with a story that would raise many eyebrows in her country, has now
received recognition beyond boarders.
The Other Love Story has scored the highest number of nominations at the NYC Web Fest, with six nominations. Roopa told the
Times of India: "I am thrilled that we have been noticed by a platform
like this and that we are competing on a global level for some of the
top awards at the festival."
Talking about her upcoming web drama she told said: "A love story like
this has not been captured in Indian cinema so far, trust me when I say
it cause I breathe cinema, cinema is the only constant love affair of my
life and a marriage I am fighting to keep up."
She further added: "If you are a sucker for sweet romance, if your heart
belongs to unadulterated 90's, if you miss the era when the
internet/cell phones had not hijacked human emotions, if you want to
indulge in something that you have never witnessed or something that has
happened to you...(who has not been in love...the first earth
shattering, life altering kind of love) - this is for you."
